Sep 22, 2006 · I believe the only year that the adapter had a bearing in it was in 72. When I tried to get parts for it GM kept telling me that it was a 1 year only thing. I had a 350/205 in a 72 blazer and it did have the bearing in the adapter. It always leaked trans fluid to the transfer case. I just kept adding fluid to the trans and draining the transfer ... I have a 1973 Chevy truck with the NP205 gear driven transfer case. My original 1973 manual says to fill it with 80w gear oil. Later manuals for the same transfer case specify ATF instead, I'm guessing this was for gas mileage reasons. The newer 205 transfer case that calls for ATF is the same as far as I know to the old one that I have.
