It is better to take the serial from the bottom of the butt frame since that is the official serial. However, some S&W revolvers have the serial in the yoke cut, like yours. Your gun was made in 1967. On #3167 only the back or the G in Springfield is broken out. By #41812, the S,M,I, and T in Smith, 0 in Wesson, I,C,I,E,L, and D in Springfield and M,A,S in Mass, are partially broken and some others are thin in places. The model 67 was introduced in 1972 at around serial number 2K55997. The full serial number is found on the butt of the grip frame. You will have to remove the grips to see it.
