Oct 30, 2019 · 2020 Duramax thumping sound. Thumping sound heard at idle and increases with RPM as you drive. Can hear it easily when standing outside front or when listening near front wheel wells and from inside the truck. This is my 4th Duramax so I am familiar with all the ticking noise complaints but this is not a tick.

To see if its injectors get some one with a good scan tool to go along and deactivate injectors one by one. If tick stops with x injector that’s the culprit. It is not the typical ticking noise. It is a thumping noise and it is supposedly caused by the fanbelt. On the 2020 there are two belts now and the fan is by itself.
