And since Silvery Barbs has a good amount of overlap with Shield and no overlap with Absorb Elements, I personally would pick Absorb Elements as a rogue, and pick up Silvery Barbs later as a bard.

P.S.: With Magic Stone only doing 1d6 plus spellcasting mod, there's no real benefit to making an Arcane Trickster who uses it, for 2 reasons. One, it ties up your bonus action every three rounds. Two, it does the same damage as a hand crossbow.
