IMO real MTB shoes are worth the price. They’ll have more supportive soles than Vans, but more importantly they are much tougher. They have reinforced toe boxes which can really save your toes and Five10s and such will last much longer that Vans. MTB shoes take a lot of abuse, buying quality shoes is 100% worth it.

I’d recommend you buy 2-3 pairs of vans and rotate through them so they wear evenly. I don’t skate but need more durable shoes than I currently wear.
