Significance of JM Marlin on Marlin 336. I have a very nice 336 that was manufactured in 1981. I have looked it over very carefully and cannot find a JM stamp. I have seen mention of the stamp as an indication of quality. Since my gun, by far, pre-dates the Remington fiasco, does the absence of the JM stamp mean anything?

JM stamps were made in Connecticut by REAL Marlin workers, the REP stamp was made in New York by Remington. It seems to be that the JM stamped guns were better made.
