I have completed all 28 story missions and 70 side missions on both maps. Hirsch is more mountainous and contains few lakes. Layton is more flat and contains many lakes. In my opinion Layton has many more animals than Hirsch. Layton is easier to hunt. Just park yourself near a lake. Then call and wait. Animals in Layton readily respond to calls, except black bear. There are so small that foilage conceals them really well, and they all have amazing senses so they bolt at the sound of a pin dropping 200 yards away. Best way to get them is to just camp a need zone.
