But Thief for sustained dps and greater mobility is never a bad choice. You're not guaranteed to get a surprise round. But Rogue 3/Ranger 5/Fighter 4 is still a strong build. Just less nova (although if you go assassin and Gloomstalker it's still great Nova, just that you're very dependent on surprise round, more so than the Bard).
