The beach here at Secrets is phenomenal and you can walk out at least 350 metres in the water. The nightly entertainment at Excellence is much better but we found all the seating very uncomfortable. We have been frequent guests if the Excellence chain and we're very disappointed with el carmen and would not return.

Excellence Resorts- El Carmen vs Punta Cana. We recently booked a trip November 21-30 at Excellence El Carmen. However, now I am seeing a LOT of recent negative reviews regarding maintenance issues, bad food, cleanliness, etc. I have not read anything similar about the Punta Cana resort. Not sure what is important to you but note that these 2 resorts are in the same area where the ocean can be very active. They are also very different resort in style and layout. EEC is modern EPC is more traditional tropical. Save. We are looking for a quiet adults only place with good food and a nice swimmable beach. We are leaning towards Excellence El Carmen but the reviews are all over the board as far as food with a number of people saying the food is nearly inedible. Has anybody been to Live Aqua and/or EEC and can speak on the food?
