While Benelli is part of Beretta and has access to the same engineering team, the 828u's locking mechanism is a little gimmicky whereas the 686's has been proven over more than three decades. There's another thing to consider as well. If you ever want to get sub gauges tubes to shoot 20 gauge, 28 gauge, or .410, the benelli is a no go.
