The fuse was good when I checked it so I put it back in and I noticed the compass started working. Tried using the phone with Sync and people could finally hear me. Go figure. yes it has worked since. The trick is to pull the fuse so no new power to radio head unit. then the act of inserting the cd used up power in capacitors and "reset it". then put fuse back in.
